No experience is necessary to serve as a PTA committee chair. All chairs receive guidance and support from the PTA Board and Volunteer Coordinator. If you’re interested in serving as a committee chair, please contact the PTA President.

Book Fair - The chair works closely with the school Principal, Librarian, and PTA President to coordinate the Scholastic Book Fair held in November. The chair works with the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit and train volunteers to help before, during and after the event.  The chair also promotes the Book Fair throughout the and hosts a ‘family night’ and a ‘teacher viewing’ event. 

Box Tops for Education - Our school encourages the collection of Box Tops as part of PTA fundraising. The box top chair promotes the program to parents, students, and staff to encourage submission of the Box Tops. The chair counts and sort box tops, maintain a spreadsheet with student and class counts, submit tops for redemption, ensure payment is made to the PTA, and schedule winning class reward parties.

Carnival - The Carnival is our biggest fundraiser and is LOTS of fun. This chair is responsible for coordinating the Carnival and overseeing sub-committee chairs in the following areas:  booths, donations, communications, ticket sales, and concessions. The chair works with the Volunteer Coordinator and Room Parent Coordinator to secure volunteers for the various areas.
Clothes Closet - The LISD Council of PTAs operates the Clothes Closet a store that provides LISD students in need of assistance with free school appropriate clothing. The coordinator of the Clothes Closet ensures parents are aware of this service and organizes the donation of gently used clothing from Cox families for the Clothes Closet. On a regular basis, the Chair takes these donations to the Clothes Closet. LISD develops a work schedule which includes all LISD schools the Clothes Closet. The Clothes Closet Chair works with the committee members and the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers to help at the Clothes Closet on our school’s scheduled days.

Hospitality - The Hospitality chair coordinates efforts with various committee members and other donors in order to promote a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at PTA programs/meeting as well as teacher/staff appreciation events throughout the year (open house, teacher meeting, PTA meetings, soup for the soul, reflections showcase, family nights, teacher and staff appreciation weeks, etc).
Reflections - This chair follows the National PTA Reflections theme for the year and coordinates a competition among students for entry of an art item that fits the theme. The chair is responsible for all aspects of communicating the program to the students, collecting applications, gathering reviewers to judge the entries, sending advanced entries to the LISD Council, and hosting the award ceremony at the school level. 
Spirit Night - The Spirit Night Chair will work on establishing designated spirit night with selected restaurant(s), as approved by the PTA Board. They will advertise spirit night to students and parents via newsletter, PTA website, school marquee, morning announcements, student stickers, flyers and school signs. (NOTE: Much of this can be a collaborative effort with other volunteers, not requiring the Spirit Night Chair to do each of these tasks personally). The chair will also collecting proceeds from spirit nights on a regular basis, as established by the restaurant, and forwarding proceeds to the PTA treasurer.
Spirit Wear - The Spirit Wear Chair will negotiate with vendors to establish the cheapest t-shirt price available. They will also select two t-shirt designs from vendor, subject to the approval of the PTA Board. They will also advertise the t-shirts selected by distributing spirit wear flyers/order forms to classrooms; maintaining a spreadsheet of t-shirt orders; forwarding all funds to the PTA treasurer; ordering t-shirts from the selected vendor and verify order accuracy when received; and finally delivering t-shirts to students. (NOTE: Much of this can be a collaborative effort with other volunteers, not requiring the Spirit Wear Chair to do each of these tasks personally). 
Volunteer/Room Parent Coordinator -
The Room Parent Coordinator provides a crucial link between the Room Parents, the PTA board, the Winter Wonderland Committee Chair, the Carnival Committee Chair, and the Volunteer Coordinator. This individual provides training on Room Parent responsibilities at the beginning of the year, recruits a Room Parent for classes that don’t have one, works with Room Parents to coordinate the baskets for the silent auction during Winter Wonderland, and ensures each classroom’s booth is covered at the Carnival. This position requires ongoing communication with Room Parents regarding various classroom parties/events, as well as helping Room Parents during Teacher Appreciation week in May.  
The Volunteer Coordinator recruits and organizes volunteers for all PTA sponsored and school events and works closely with the school principal, various PTA committee chairs, and Room Parent Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator is not a member of the PTA board but may attend board meetings upon invitation only and to help with PTA events as needed. The Volunteer Coordinator also maintains and manages the workroom.
The Chair works with various committee chairs, board members, and school personnel in order to maintain the Volunteer/PTA website with up to date information as well as communicate with school volunteers and PTA membership when needed.
